Bespoke products - what is it, how to order them and why is it worth it?

In modern interior design, there is an increasing need for furniture tailored to a specific space, both in terms of its functionality and aesthetics. When standard solutions are not enough, we talk about bespoke products, i.e. products that go beyond the catalogue offer. At .mdd, we respond to these needs by offering furniture tailor-made to the customer's specifications, support at every stage of implementation and fast, individual quotations.

What does this process of ordering non-standard look like and when is it worth opting for it?

What are non-standard products? Types of non-typicality

Non-typical furniture are products created outside of our standard catalogue - tailored to a specific space, function and user needs. Bespoke pieces are developed on the basis of the products in the range, but with aesthetic or technical changes. These differences can include:

  • a change in the dimensions of the furniture or its components,
  • colours and finishes from outside the range,
  • additions and accessories such as, for example, mediaboxes, locks or handles,
  • irregular shapes and structural changes.

Please note that due to the unique nature and development according to customer specifications, non-standard furniture is not covered by the standard guarantee. Modifications affect the price of the product and may extend the delivery time.

What are the advantages of non-standard furniture?

The nature of custom products and their individual development will make such furniture an excellent choice for projects and tenders that require greater flexibility and a one-off approach. Bespoke furniture provides:

  • tailoring to project requirements and user needs,
  • extensive design possibilities and flexibility of arrangement,
  • greater end customer satisfaction,
  • a competitive advantage for the distributor or architect.

The support of our team at all stages of the development of a “nontype” ensures that the process runs smoothly and seamlessly.

How do I place an order for non-standard products? Step-by-step instructions

We have optimised the ordering process for non-standard products so that our customers can request their own quote in the LINX system. If you are unable to do this yourself, please contact our Customer Service.

The process of placing a bespoke order consists of a few simple steps:

1. Submitting a request

In the basket in the LINX system, using the ‘Add Index’ function, the customer specifies the model which they want to have modified and quoted as a bespoke one and selects the ‘New Non-Standard’ option. After entering the specifications, a description of the modifications required and all the necessary information and any attachments, he adds it to the basket and sends the request via the ‘Place Order or ‘Send only for Non-Standard Quotation’ function.

If a similar request has already been quoted, you can skip the creation of the non-standard configuration by simply selecting the appropriate item from the ‘Selection from Quotation List’ and adding it to the basket.

2. Preparing a bespoke solution

The request is submitted to our technical team via the LINX-integrated internal software. To prepare a quote we analyse:

  • the type of modification and the degree of non-standardisation (affecting the lead time),
  • availability of materials and technological capacities,
  • the need for a technical drawing or consultation with the procurement department.

If there is any information missing from the application, or if a different technical solution needs to be developed, we contact the customer to clarify the specification or accept the proposed option before making an accurate quote.

3. Pricing a non-standard product

After analysing and creating your bespoke solution and verifying the availability of materials and tools, we prepare your quotation.

How long does a non-standard quotation take? In 70% of cases, it is ready within 24 hours. If some materials need to be ordered, this timeframe may be extended by the time it takes to get a quote from a suitable supplier.

4. Placing an order

Once the customer has received an email indicating that the request has been processed and priced, they confirm and accept the sent quotation, thereby placing an order in LINX. Further steps are the same as for orders with standard products.

If the request was sent using the ‘Send only for Non-Standard Quotation’ function, the corresponding priced template can be found in the ‘ORDERS’ section before the developed solution can be added to the basket.
